Cuttack: Suspected Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman has been taken to Delhi by train after his remand period ended today.

A team from Delhi police brought him to Cuttack railway station after producing him before the Salepur JMFC court. He will be taken to Tihar jail after being produced in Tis Hazari jail in New Delhi, sources said.

The State Crime Branch had brought him from Delhi on June 21 to quiz him over his alleged links with the terrorist outfit. The state investigating agency took him on 10-day remand in the first phase and seven -day in second phase for interrogation. The CB is reported to have extracted important information about his terror links during interrogation.

Notably, in December 2015, a joint team of Odisha Police and Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested the 37-year-old cleric from Paschimkachcha village in Cuttack district for his alleged links with terrorist organisation Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Rehman was running an illegal madarsa at Tangi, 25 km from Cuttack, for the past two years and had appointed five teachers. The madarsa has since been closed and the students, most of them from neighbouring Jharkhand, sent back to their homes.
