Bijepur: Tension prevailed in Bijepur area last night when police detained a few vehicles of BJP workers near Jaringi while they were going for campaigning for the upcoming bypoll.

Sources said Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and several BJP workers were going from Bijepur to Jaringi for campaigning in over 15 vehicles. Police allowed three vehicles, including that of Pradhan and detained the rest to verify documents. Later, the cops released the vehicles.

“The police detained our vehicles even though we had permission to use the vehicles in campaigning,” said a BJP worker.

Bijepur Police station IIC Prakash Karna said, “There was a meeting of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. We were asked to check whether the vehicles have permission to accompany the Union Minister in carcade.
