Tension at Tata Steel SEZ in Gopalpur during public hearing

Berhampur: Tension ran high on premises of special economic zone of Tata Steel in Gopalpur after two groups created a ruckus during a public hearing over construction of SEZ and industrial park near Kanishi block here.

According to sources, some locals created ruckus alleging lack of transparency in the public hearing.

Besides, they also alleged that the people, who will be affected due to the projects, are also not invited to the public hearing.

Following the incident, another group of locals reached the spot and tussled with the protesting group.

Manoj Panigrahi, a protester, said, “The public hearing was on the development of industrial park. The public hearing was about to discuss the impact of industrial park on environment, what are engagement opportunities for the locals?”

Sushant Mishra, Tata Steel official, said, “We don’t want any discrimination and disturbances.”
