Bhubaneswar: The SOG camp at Chandaka on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar witnessed palpable tension today with inmates of the camp staging a demonstration over the death of a fellow jawan during training.

According to sources, jawan Laxminarayan Pradhan, who became unconscious during training, died on the way while being taken to Capital hospital here for treatment.

The death of Laxminaryan triggered outrage among his fellow jawans, who staged a demonstration alleging that the deceased jawan was not given adequate preliminary treatment while he lay unconscious.

Protesting jawans also alleged that Laxminarayan was forced to run and undergo training even after he complained that he was unwell.

“He ran for 10 kms and completed the run before the stipulated time. Then he suddenly fainted and he was rushed to the MI room here at the camp for initial examination. He was then taken to the Capital hospital where he was declared dead. Most likely it looks like an cardiac incident but a post mortem will be carried out,” said IG (Operations) Soumendra Priyadarshi.

Compensation will be paid to the family of the deceased as per government norms, informed Priyadarshi.
