Bhawanipatna: The public works department (PWD) has detected fraud in tenders procured by submitting fake Term Deposit Rates (TDRs) in Kalahandi district.

A private firm, Suraj Enterprises and a local contractor Bunti Agarwal allegedly submitted fake records of TDRs to procure some key tenders in the area.

The duo has been issued show cause notices as to why the firm and the contractor should not be blacklisted. Meanwhile, their current work orders have been cancelled and no fresh work would be allotted to the firm, sources said.

“The TDRs submitted by them to the PWD during 2015-16 had been sent to the State Bank of India, Bhawanipatna branch for authentication on the instruction of our chief engineer. The bank later informed that most of the TDRs submitted were either fake or closed," said executive engineer of PWD, Ajit Kumar Babu.

"A high-level probe is needed against the contractor and the firm," he said adding that the accused duo's other submitted TDRs are under scrutiny.

Any firm, contractor or construction agency involved in submitting fake TDRs and affidavit to procure tenders is an offence that could not be tolerated, said a local contractor Nanda Nayak.

"The contractors have intentionally submitted the fake documents. So, a case can be registered against them under section 467, 468, 471 and 472 of IPC," said a government lawyer, Bhawani Sankar Mishra.

A crime branch investigation is needed into the submission of fake documents by alleged fraudsters during tender procurement, he added.
