Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, cold conditions made a comeback with temperature plummeting below 10 degree Celsius in as many as eight towns in Odisha on Sunday.

Weather department sources said the lowest temperature was recorded at 3.5 degree Celsius in Phulbani.

While the minimum temperature in Daringbadi was 7 degree Celsius, residents in Sundergarh experienced chilling cold at 7.5 degree Celsius temperature.

Mercury dipped below 10 degree Celsius staying at 7.6 degree Celsius in Hirakud while Baripada recorded 8 degree Celsius temperature.

Among other places, Jharsuguda recorded 8.5 degree Celsius, Keonjhar 8.9 degree Celsius and Sambalpur 9.6 degree Celsius.

Similarly, twin cities Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 14.4 degree Celsius and 12.4 degree Celsius respectively.

The sudden plunge in temperature and cold wave conditions has once again thrown life out of gear in several parts of the state with mostly poor and homeless suffering the most.

Streets sported deserted look with shops downing the shutters and people preferring to stay indoors after sundown.
