Temp crosses 40 degree in six cities while Met forecasts thunderstorms from Mar 26

Bhubaneswar: Even as temperature crossed 40 degree mark in several cities in Odisha on Saturday with scorching heat wave like conditions throwing life out of order, the meteorological department has predicted thunder squalls in some districts of the state in next two days.

Saturday saw mercury breaking previous records of the season so far, with Bolangir topping the chart at 42 degree Celsius on the day and five other cities too recorded temperatures soaring above forty degree mark.

On the other hand, the meteorological department has predicted thunderstorms for next one to two days in North and Southern parts of the state which could bring respite to the areas reeling under heat.

Speaking to media persons, local Met office Director SC Sahu said sea breeze with comparatively higher speeds of 15 to 20 kmph is not allowing the south western winds to raise the temperature in the state.

“Bhubaneswar recorded 35 degree Celsius while Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Keonjhar saw 36 degree Celsius of temperature. Thunderstorms are likely in some parts of the state like Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack in next two days from March 26 to 28. It will further help in easing off the heat,” Sahu added.
