Jajpur: Tension erupted in Mundamala village of Jajpur Road today when some locals beat up the Vyasanagar Tehsildar Sapan Kumar Nanda and other local administration officials during a raid on illegal transportation of gravel.

The villagers, including women, also manhandled the Revenue Inspector (RI) who had accompanied the Tehsildar in the raid.

"While taking the accused into custody, some villagers rushed to the spot and started thrashing me and other staff present. They also abused us in filthy language and threatened to torch our vehicle," said Nanda.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and rescued the Tehsildar and other government officials from the custody of villagers.

Meanwhile, police have arrested six villagers including three women in connection with the case. Amitabh Mohapatra, IIC, Dharmasala PS informed the six persons have been held on basis of a complaint lodged by the Tehsildar and further investigation is on.
