Kendrapara: A group of teenagers were arrested on charges of gunning down one of their friends on December 20 near Kendrapara Township in Odisha, the police said today.

All arrested youths are first-timers in crime and are in the age group of 18 to 19 years and have decent as well as educated family background, the police said adding, they had ventured into world of crime recently.

A 21-year-old youth, Sushansu Swain of Khadianga locality, was gunned down on December 20 at Gandakhia Road on the outskirts of Kendrapara Township.

The accused were arrested yesterday, said Nilakantha Prasad Patra, Inspector of Kendrapara police station. The police said the youths did not have a good relation with Swain, which led to enmity between them.

The youths also confessed that they were part of a crime syndicate active in Kendrapara Township and had tried to initiate Swain into criminal activities and when he refused, he had to part with life, the police said.

It was a pre-planned murder. The revolver with which the crime was committed was handed over to them by a gangster.

Later they killed him by firing on him from close range, said Inspector Patra.
