Teenage girl dies in road mishap

Jharsuguda: Tension ran high at Beheramal Chhak on the outskirts of Jharsuguda town here this morning following the death of a teenage girl who was run over by a speeding truck.

Reports said the deceased, identified as Pritimayee Patel was on the way to Siriapali from Jharsuguda with her parents on a bike. While on the way, her father Brajamohan Patel lost control of the bike. As a result, his daughter sitting behind her mother Promodini Patel fell down. In the meanwhile, a speeding truck coming from behind ran over the girl killing her on the spot.

Tension ran high in the area after irate locals damaged the truck and staged a road blockade demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.

Following information, a team of police and local tehsildar rushed to the spot and pacified the people and assured compensation to the family of the deceased. Police later took the body to the district headquarters hospital for post mortem. The condition of the injured parents of the deceased admitted to the hospital was stated to be stable, hospital sources said.
