Kandhamal: The District Primary Teachers' Association today called for cease work in the state-run schools across the district protesting launch of the Kasam mobile education app.

The State-run schools remained closed due to the cease work by the teachers. Hundreds of teachers staged a protest in front of the collector's office in Phulbani. The association also presented a memorandum to the district education officer addressed to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Governor.

"The implementation of the app is like disrespect to teachers because around 80 percent of the district is yet to be see data connectivity," president of teachers' association Sukant Behera said.

On the other hand the district education office cited that the move to launch the app is aimed at reforming the educational sector in the district.

"The app aims at improving the education infrastructure and strengthening the monitoring system. If the teachers are trying to oppose the move then we will try to solve the issue through mutual discussion but if they do not listen then we will take legal action," District Education Officer Vikash Chandra Pradhan said.
