Angul: A teacher was made to kneel down and apologize to a girl student at a Gram Sabha for making obscene comments. The incident occurred at Patakamunda under Chhendipada block of Angul district on Friday.

As per allegations, an assistant teacher of the Patakamunda High School passed some obscene remarks to a Class VIII girl student of the school on December 28. After the girl informed her parents about the incident, a meeting between the village chief and the school management committee was convened where the teacher pleaded guilty.

After his confession, the teacher apologized by kneeling down and as per the demands of the villagers wrote a letter to dismiss him. The Block Education Officer (BEO) was also present at the meeting.

Angul Collector said that as the teacher has been found guilty action will be taken against him and if the accused teacher lodges a complaint then action against villagers will also be taken for taking the law into their hands.

“A row erupted over obscene remarks to a girl and it also came to our notice. The District Education Officer (DEO) had also sent the BEO to conduct an investigation into the matter yesterday. We have received the inquiry report. Based on the report, the accused teacher, Laxmi Narayan Prasad Bhujabal has been suspended from duty,” said additional collector of Angul, Srinibas Behera.

Comments of the accused teacher could not be obtained on the matter.
