Bhubaneswar: Questioning the reason behind sending official communication to non-Hindi speaking people in Hindi, BJD MP from Dhenkanal Tathagata Satpathy on Saturday posted a thread of twitter messages saying that he replied in Odia, to a letter sent by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Hindi.

He further stated on social media, “Why are Union Ministers forcing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking Indians? Is this an attack on other languages?”

Satpathy also posted a photo of his response letter to Tomar.

The BJD leader further asked, “Why can't Union ministers hire one person from each State to help them communicate with people speaking different languages?” adding that the move will create jobs for the youth.

Satpathy, on Friday, wrote to Tomar expressing his inability to understand what is written in the letter in Hindi.

He also mentioned, “Odisha falls in the ‘C’ category, so the letter should have been sent either in English or Odia.”

The Union Minister had written to Satpathy inviting him to attend an event on the ‘India 2022’ vision.
