Kalinganagar: Joining hands with the rest of the world, Tata Steel today observed World Environment Day in Kalinganagar.

Activities like plantation of saplings, generating awareness on environmental sustainability through various programmes marked the observance of World Environment Day.

Amit Kumar Chatterjee, chief, Electrical Maintenance, Tata Steel-Kalinganagar joined as the chief guest in a function organized at Bamnipal Housing Complex.

The observance was in keeping with the global theme for this year’s World Environment Day, “The fight against the illegal trade in wild life”.

Speaking on the occasion, Chatterjee urged everyone to take care of environment at all levels. “By celebrating World Environment Day, we remind ourselves and others of the importance of caring for our environment,” he added.

Earlier, essay and drawing competition among the school children of Tata Parivar colonies, quiz competition among the officer and non-officer employees of Tata Steel Kalinganagar Steel Plant were organized prior to the main event.

Plantation of saplings was undertaken in coke ovens, SMS, RMHS, sinter plant, safety training centre and Bamnipal Housing Complex premises.

Tata Steel launched Greenfection campaign, a central campaign on environmental friendly habits on the occasion.

The winners of various competitions organized prior to the event were awarded on the occasion.
