Tastes from God’s Own Country Kerala in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: People all over the country know about some popular South Indian food items like Dosa, Idli, Sambhar among others but many hardly know that God’s own country Kerala has some amazing delicacies to offer. To make these cuisines popular in Bhubaneswar, Kerala Kala Samiti organised a Kerala Food Festival this Sunday.

Speaking to odishatv.in, president of Kerala Kala Samiti, K R Nair said, “This food festival is organised mainly to present the Kerala delicacies to people in and around Bhubaneswar. We are giving an exposure of Kerala’s food culture to Odisha.”

As November 1 is Kerala Day, Kerala Kala Samiti hosts the food festival every year on the first Sunday of November, marking the birth of the South Indian state. Mouth-watering cuisines exclusive to Kerala attracted the visitors coming to the event.

“Typical cuisines of Kerala like Idiappam, Payasam, Kappa, Fish Curry, Prawn Curry, Parotta, Puttu etc are major attractions for the visitors,” said Radhakrishnan, secretary of the organisation.

“Its nice and interesting. I have never tried it before so it feels quite new to me,” said Navya, a non-Malayali visitor.

Arjun, a student from Kerala said, “We are so far from home and missing Kerala and its food. I am thankful to Kerala Kala Samiti for organising this festival every year. Most of the cuisines of my home State are available here.”

During the event, the cartoon paintings of famous cartoonist from Kerala Unnikrishnan were displayed. The cartoons were based on the theme “60 years of Kerala”.
