Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu will announce the results at the National Media Centre, New Delhi which will be followed by an award ceremony.

The Ministry had initiated Swachh Survekshan-2017, in which a survey was conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to rank 500 cities across the country on cleanliness with a population of one lakh and above.

Interestingly, both the smart cities of Odisha, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, have been selected as winners to be felicitated during the ceremony.

The Swachh Bharat Mission has sent a letter to the Odisha Housing and Development Board to participate in the event.

In order to foster a healthy competition between cities for improving cleanliness standards, MoUD had started the Swachh Survekshan survey in 2016, ranking cities based on cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation.

Swachh Survekshan 2016 had ranked 73 cities across the country and Mysore was ranked on top followed by Chandigarh.
