Balasore: Surprise checks continue to be held at various petrol pumps across Odisha following the reports that micro-chips are used to manipulate the amount of petrol being dispensed at some pumps.

Joint raids were conducted by police and officials of Weights and Measures Department at six petrol pumps in Balasore district today.

"A joint inspection was conducted by police and officials of Weights and Measures Department on petrol pumps in Balasore town to check if they are using any chips or is there any discrepancy in the quantity of petrol and diesel they are selling at the pumps. Further raids will continue on other petrol pumps in the district," said Balasore Sadar police station IIC Dayanidhi Das.

Similar checks had earlier been conducted in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

In December last year, Odisha DGP RP Sharma had directed the SPs of all districts and DCPs of the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to conduct checks at the petrol pumps to prevent manipulation in fuel quantity.

The DGP had also instructed the cops to register cases under appropriate Sections of IPC and Orissa Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, if they notice any trickery at the petrol pumps.
