Supplies Dept officials raid paddy Mandi; 3 middlemen held

Malkangiri: Civil Supplies Department officials raided a paddy Mandi in Kaladapalli here today and detained three middlemen on the charges of purchasing paddy crops from local farmers at lower price and selling the same in the Mandi.

However, five other middlemen managed to flee from the spot.  The officials later handed over the three detained to the Padia police and filed complaint against all eight accused.

On the other hand, Civil Supplies Department officials seized a truck and a mini truck while paddy crops were being smuggled to other states. Acting on complaints filed before the district Collector by some farmers, the officials conducted a raid and seized the vehicles.

"Under the direction of the district Collector, we conducted a raid and arrested three middlemen from the Mandi. Search is on to nab the rest five," said Assistant Civil Supply Officer Manoj Kumar Pradhan.
