Sundargarh: Vigilance sleuths on Sunday conducted simultaneous raids at five places including houses of Sundargarh jailer Syed Sahiruddin Ahmed on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Reports said, the anti-corruption officials raided Ahmed’s two houses at Samanta Vihar- plot number- M/14 in Bhubaneswar and Dumduma phase colony-3 plot number L-249, simultaneously.

Besides, the agency also raided a guest house of Sundargarh jail where Ahmed is presently residing, sources added.

During the raid, the Vigilance team has laid its hands on some incriminating documents and bank passbooks in the name of Ahmed.

Informing the media later in the day, Director General, Vigilance, RP Sharma said till now the Vigilance officials have traced the movable and immovable assets of Ahmed to the tune of about Rs 1 crore.

“We will examine the bank locker of the jailer tomorrow and recommend the Jail department to initiate stern action against him,” he added.

Notably, Ahmed was recently transferred to Sundargarh jail from Nabarangpur jail.
