Bhubaneswar: More and more instances of violation are surfacing against SUM Hospital where 24 persons died after a deadly fire broke out on 17th October. As per the Bhubaneswar Development Authority, the multi-storey building in which SUM hospital is operating has been built without the permission of the civic body.

According to BDA Planning Member, Sudhir Mohanty, “SUM hospital authorities do not have occupancy certificate. As per BDA norms, if a building is more than 15 meter high, then it is considered as a multi-storey and a fire clearance is also mandatory. In 2010, when SUM authorities applied for permission, they were not given permission for a multi-storey building. However, we had asked them to install fire equipment. There has been a gross violation on the part of SUM Authorities and we will file a case against them as per our section 91."

On the other hand, the Khurda Collector Niranjan Sahoo who had renewed the license of SUM Hospital without fire safety certificate has said it is not possible to check all the details.

"The Collector does not check all the things but, asks for a report. The report that I received had mentioned that everything has been complied to. After seeing discrepancies we have served a show-cause to the CDMO," said Niranjan.

The CDMO has also passed on the buck to his subordinates.

"The ADMO was asked to conduct the inspection and the everything along with the documents furnished by SUM hospital was sent to the Collector for necessary action," said Khurda CDMO Sarada Prasad Mishra.
