Bhubaneswar: Manoj Nayak, owner of SUM hospital which met a fire mishap on Monday evening causing death of 21 patients, is likely to be arrested, said Prakash Chandra Mohapatra, Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) Odisha.

Talking to newsmen, Mohapatra, said, “As we have filed a case against the management of the SUM hospital, there is a chance of arrest of Manoj Nayak, who is also a member of the management.”

“The investigation is still on. All the pictures will be clear after the completion of the probe,” Mohapatra added.

Asked about probe aspects of FIR, Mohapatra, said, “We have filed the FIR citing negligence in patients evacuation during the fire mishap.”

On Tuesday, four officials of Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital including medical superintendent Pusparaj Samantasinghar were arrested in connection with the fire tragedy that claimed 21 lives.

The Commissionerate Police also arrested ex-Executive Engineer Amulya Kumar Sahu (electrical maintenance), Fire Safety Officer Santosh Das and retired Junior Engineer Malay Kumar Sahu (electrical maintenance).

They were arrested on charges of criminal negligence, including culpable homicide, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and negligence with regard to fire safety
