Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the fire at SUM Hospital mounted to 25 after an injured succumbed to injuries here on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Annapurna Samantaroy of Bhandarikuda village under Brahmagiri town of Puri district. She was undergoing treatment at AMRI hospital here.
While 20 patients had died on the fateful day on October 17 when the dialysis unit of the hospital caught fire and it spread to the ICU of medicine ward, four others had breathed last during treatment at several hospitals in the city later.
The kin of each of the deceased are entitled to receive a compensation of Rs 12 lakh which includes Rs 5 lakh from the hospital and Rs 5 lakh from State government. Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to each kin of the deceased from Prime minister’s Relief Fund.
In a related development, DG, Fire Service, after convening a high-level meeting with officers has asked the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) to provide a list of hospitals running without fire safety equipments in the State.
“We don’t have a complete list of hospitals which are operating without fire fighting installations in the State. We will urge these health care units to adhere the fire safety guidelines,” Binoy Behera, DG, Fire Service told reporters.
Meanwhile the State government has removed SUM Hospital from the list of empanelled hospitals under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).
