Bhubaneswar: The SUM Hospital authorities had ignored the recommendations of the Fire Services (FS) department on fire safety measures, said DG, Fire Services Binay Behera today.

Briefing media persons after submitting his report to Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on SUM Hospital fire mishap, at a review meeting at the State Secretariat here in the afternoon, he said the report was based on the FIR the Fire Services department had filed in Khandagiri police station against the Hospital authorities.

“As per my report to the state government, the SUM Hospital authorities had ignored several recommendations of the Fire Services department during the Fire audit in 2013 which subsequently resulted in this tragic mishap last night,” Behera said.

Stating that the report was mostly on the fire audit of government hospitals, he said the meeting discussed about strict implementation of fire safety measures in all government hospitals in the first phase while similar measures would be taken up in all private hospitals and clinics in the state in due course.

Meanwhile, acting on the FIR by the Fire Services department, Khandagiri police today arrested four staff of SUM Hospital. They are Pushparaj Samantsinghar (46) Medical Superintendent, Amulya Sahu (56), ex-Executive Engineer, Electrical (Maintenance), Santosh Das (45), Fire Safety Officer and Malaya Kumar Sahu (40), Junior Engineer, Electrical (Maintenance).

On the basis of the FIR filed by Brajendu Bhusan Das, Fire Officer, Central Range, police has registered a case under section 304, 305, 285 and 34 of IPC.

The four arrested staff will be forwarded to the court to stand their trial in the lower court, police said.
