Bhubaneswar: The Malkangiri police on Tuesday sounded a high-alert in Odisha-Chhattisgarh border following the death of 25 CRPF jawans in a deadly ambush by naxalites in Sukma district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh yesterday. Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra informed this to media this morning.

“We have sounded high-alert in the border area. Also the whole district has been put on extra vigil,” Mohapatra stated.

Highly placed sources said, monitoring has been stepped up in all the entry and exit points of the bordering region. Besides, instructions have been given to the police officers and the combing police parties to coordinate with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh, the sources added.

Media reports said, a similar alert was also sounded in the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) following the encounter between paramilitary forces and Maoists in Sukma.

The Greyhounds team involved in combing operations were alerted as the Naxalites may escape into the forests in neighbouring States after the incident, reports noted.
