Puri: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik today created a Guinness World Record by sculpting a more than 48 feet tall sand castle at Puri beach.

Sudarsan along with 45 students of his Sand Art Institute created this 48 feet 7 inch tall sculpture which beat the previous record which was in the name of a sand artist from USA.

The feat was registered in the record books after officials of the Guinness World Records confirmed it. “The sand castle created today is 14.84 meters and this is now a new Guinness World Record. This is the tallest sand castle in the world,” said Swapnil Dangerkar of Guinness World Records.

The record-breaking sculpture was built with a message of world peace and featured sculptures of Mahatma Gandhi, Gautama Buddha, and Nelson Mandela.

“Our sculpture is much bigger in size as compared to the earlier record of 45 feet 10 inch. I would like to congratulate the students of my institute for making it possible,” said Sudarsan.

“From the way Puri has been popularized through sand art, I expect that there will be more progress done in this front and Odisha will be known worldwide for its sand art,” said Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi.
