Bhubaneswar: Late Congress leader Subal Sahu's wife Rita Sahu will contest the Bijepur bypoll on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket. Rita, her son Sumit Sahu along with various supporters joined BJD today at the party headquarters here in presence of BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

"Our family joined BJD as it was my husband's wish. I will contest the election and come out victorious," said Rita, after being inducted into the party.

The party headquarters was abuzz with activists and senior BJD leaders, including those from Western Odisha. Subal's family had arrived in Bhubaneswar yesterday for the event.

"I am very glad that Rita Sahu, the wife of late Subal Sahu and other members of his family have joined the Biju Janata Dal today. 3000 Congress workers from Bijepur have also joined today, which will strengthen the party," said Patnaik.
