Baripada: A police sub-inspector was arrested by Vigilance sleuths in Baripada today while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

A Vigilance team caught Sachidananda Kishan, the Sub-Inspector of Bariapa Police station under Mayurbhanj district while he was taking bribe, sources said.

According to sources, Sachidananda had sought bribe from one accused Biswajeet Sikhar, who was arrested over some family dispute.

“Police arrested me on charges of attempted murder and dowry. They arrested and tortured me mercilessly. The police later removed Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC from the FIR lodged against me and sought Rs 15,000 to solve the matter,” said Sikhar.
