Sundergarh: Around 15 students were reportedly taken ill after consuming cooked food at an Anganwadi Kendra in Gopana area under Koida block here in the district on Tuesday.

According to sources, the sick students have been admitted to Lahunipada Hospital for treatment.

“Students who partook food at the Anganwadi Centre complained of  stomach ache and nausea so we admitted them to hospital for treatment,” said a local Gangi Munda.

“Rice, dal with vegetables and coconut were served to the students in the meal. I have been cooking food since long for students but such incidents never cropped up. I am surprised why this happened,” said Gopana Anganwadi Worker, Latita Bhumija.

Suspecting food poisoning, the doctor at the hospital Abani Mishra said, if need be, students will be referred to Rourkela hospital for further treatment.

“Primary treatment of the students has begun and most students are  stable now. We hope all will recover soon,” the doctor added.
