Cuttack: The initiative by a group of college students, who have now taken up the task to clean up piles of garbage that is being generated during the Bali Jatra festival on a daily basis, has won hearts of many in Cuttack.

Nearly 250 students under the aegis of Red Cross have come forward and taken the responsibility to keep the momentum of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan going in the city.

The drive has certainly helped the administration as well as the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to maintain all round sanitation during the weeklong festival that draws lakhs of visitors from across the State.

"The footfall of visitors is high and amount of garbage and waste material has also increased. Therefore we are just trying to help to keep the ground clean and we feel good in doing this," said Madhubanti Sahu, a student.

The volunteers reach the ground early in morning and cleans up the waste scattered all over the Bali Jatra ground.

Meanwhile, Cuttack Municipal Corporation have also appreciated the students for such noble effort.

"They are doing praiseworthy work and we encouraging them too and we hope they will continue this good work till the end of the festival," said Bikash Mohapatra, CMC Commissioner.
