Bhubaneswar: Two days before the plus two examinations, the lecturers and staff of 488-category block grant colleges withdrew agitation and agreed to cooperate in the conduct of examination after government assured them of fulfilling their demands.

The decision was taken by the lecturers after a meeting with School and Mass education minister Debi Mishra at the secretariat on Saturday.
“In view of the future of 3 lakh students, the proposed strike was put on hold following assurance of government. All the lecturers will participate in examination starting March 6”, Pabitra Mahala, chief of the lecturers’ body, said.

The minister assured them of abolishing block grant system and granting them of regular status within three months. “We have discussed the matter with the agitating lectuers in presence of higher education and mass education secretaries. I appealed to them to cooperate with the examinations”, minister Debi Mishra said.

On the other hand, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) is all set to kick start plus two examinations from Monday. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the conduct of the test. Question papers have reached the exam management hub amid tight security.

The test will begin at 10 am and will continue till 1 pm. Three-tier squad has been formed to prevent any illegal practices during the examinations.
