Khurda: Normal life remained affected in Balugaon and Banpur blocks in the district today due to a six-hour bandh called by the Balugaon-Banpur-Chilika action committee demanding sub-division status for Banpur.

As part of the strike, protesters were seen picketing at multiple locations even as government offices, private establishments and shops remained closed. However, vehicular movement remained unaffected in the area as both heavy and light vehicles were seen plying on roads.

"Banpur fulfils all the eligibility criteria to get the sub-division status and we demand the same," said President of Uma Maheswar Banik Sangh, Rabi Narayan Naik.

“We have been demanding this for long but the district administration has ignored our appeal. The agitation will be intensified in the coming days and will continue till the administration agrees to our demand,” said Naik.
