Baripada: It may happen many times on screen, but this time a young man really had hatched a plan to kidnap his own father in a bid to extract money.

Abani Behera of Tangaduana village in Mayurbhanj district had engaged two of his friends- Ajay and Himansu- on contract to kidnap his father Bhagabat Behera.

Ajay and Himansu prepared a master plan accordingly and abducted Bhagabat at gun point when he was on his to Baripada. The duo along with his two aides held him hostage and withdrew Rs 80,000 from his debit card, police said.

At the same time, Abani had moved the police station tactically alleging that his father was kidnapped by some miscreants for Rs 10 lakh, police said.

Accused Ajay confessed that Abani had appointed them on contract to commit the crime. "His son, Bapi Babu (Abani), had contacted me to kidnap his father", Ajay Patra said.

The accused son Abani said, "They (Ajay Patra and others) had to get around Rs 40,000 from my father. When they contacted me, I asked them to take the amount from my father as he was on his way to Baripada. Later, they called me back that they have detained my father and would not free him if he does not give the amount".

According to police Abani had a bitter relation with his father over some monetary dispute.  "His father always gives money to his three sisters and not to Abani. So, he (Abani) hatched a plan to kidnap his father. Five including Abani (victim's son) were involved in the crime out of whom we have arrested three", Inspector-in-charge Minati Biswal said.

Four mobile phones, four debit cards, cheques and some cash have been recovered from them. Biswal added.

However, Bhagabat has felt the entire episode very outlandish. "I am feeling very sad over the matter. I can’t imagine that a son can go against his father for money", he said.
