Balasore: A group of people, believed to be opponents of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), pelted stones at the vehicle of senior BJP leader Pratap Sarangi at Nilagiri block under Berhampore police station in the district on Thursday night.

The incident apparently took place when Sarangi was on his way to home after attending a party meeting as part of his election campaign for the Zilla Parishad (ZP) candidate of zone 11 here.

The BJP leader has lodged a complaint with the police and held several BJD party workers responsible for the attack. He along with some of his supporters staged dharna in front of the police station demanding arrest of the BJD workers.

In a similar incident, the vehicle of Polsara MLA Srikant Sahu was on Friday attacked in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district when he was returning after attending a party meeting.
