Stole pulling case: Cong gives Sundargarh bandh call tomorrow

Sundargarh: Taking note of the inordinate delay in the investigation into the pulling of stoles from women at a recent meeting held in the Sundargarh town on December 4 in presence of the chief minister, the Sundargarh District Congress Committee (DCC) in association with the Rourkela Congress Organisational District has given a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh call in the district tomorrow.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Monday night, Sundargarh DCC president Dushmant Nayak said despite the order given by chief minister Naveen Patnaik to the district administration and the police to probe into the incident, no action has been taken in this matter till date. As a result, there is delay in the action to be taken against the erring policemen who were involved in this unsavoury incident.

Condemning the incident which had taken place at Mangaspur in Tangarpalli block where the chief minister had gone to attend Vikash Samavesh, Nayak said the chief minister should tender unconditional apology to the women whose modesty was outraged by some policemen who had forcibly took out stoles from their body.

He said the BJP will observe the bandh in a democratic manner. “We have appealed the people of Sundargarh district to lend their unstinting support to make the bandh a total success”, he said, adding all educational institutions, government and private offices, shops and business establishments will remain closed. Besides, no vehicles would be allowed to ply on road during the bandh, he added.
