Sambalpur: Doing private practice proved costly for Associate Professor Gautam Satpathy, who was placed under suspension for dereliction of duty here on Monday.

The suspension order came after Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Director Ashwini Pujahari had caught Satpathy treating patients privately at his residence in a sting operation on Saturday.

Earlier, a show-cause notice was issued to Satpathy over his unauthorised absence from the hospital during duty hours and was asked to respond to the show-cause within 48 hours.

However, as Satpathy’s reply was not ‘satisfactory’, he has been placed under suspension till completion of the inquiry, said Pujahari.

VIMSAR director Pujahari now seems to have taken up a task of cracking whip on erring doctors doing private practice during duty hours.

Pujahari had also caught Associate Professor of Radio-diagnosis department B B Panda red-handed while he was performing ultrasound at a private diagnostics unit in Burla in an undercover sting operation on July 9.
