Bhubaneswar: In a bid to avoid inconvenience to citizens on account of demonetization of Rs 500, Rs 1000 bank notes in the country, Union Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan has warned State-owned fuel pumps of stern action in case they refuse to accept old notes. While of Rs 500, and Rs 1,000 notes ceased from being legal tender since November 8 midnight, it was decided that fuel pumps and gas stations to accept the notes for the next 72 hours.

“I appeal all consumers to feel free to transact with Rs 500, Rs 1,000 notes. However, I want to request them to buy fuel to the full worth of the tender they are using, considering the fact that the availability of notes is an issue. Till November 11 midnight the petrol pumps will have to accept these notes, and stern steps will be taken against those who don’t follow these guidelines, including legal action and cancellation of their licenses,” the Union minister said.
