Bhawanipatna: Following OTV telecast on the apathy of the conjoined twins in Milupada village under Phiringia block yesterday, Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare department today tweeted the twins will be sent to AIIMS, New Delhi, for evaluation and treatment.

Health Minister Pratap Jena today informed that as the surgery is very complex, the conjoined twins will be referred to AIIMS while the Odisha Government would bear all the expenses. We hope that their surgery will be successful, he said.

Besides, the district administration has already provided Rs 35,000 to the family of the conjoined twins, the twitter message added.

Health minister Pratap Jena also said through twitter that the Kandhamal administration will fund the treatment of the twins.

Earlier in the day, Kandhamal Collector Brundha D said every possible help and support will be lent to the family of the twins.

The conjoined twins could not be operated earlier after their birth two years ago due to financial constraint of the parents.

The twins Honey and Singh were born conjoined at the head on April 9, 2015, to Bhuan Kanhar and Pushpanjali Kanhar at the Phiringia health centre.

The parents had also admitted their children to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, with the money accrued from the sale of their property and valuables.

After waiting for four months to get treatment of their conjoined twins at the SCB hospital, the doctors sent them back with an advice to consult doctors at the AIIMS, New Delhi.

Though the district administration had assigned an anganwadi worker to take care of them, nothing had been done till the OTV telecast a report on the family’s plight.
