Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a student of Sri Sri University at Bidyadharpur near Naraj in Cuttack district drowned in Mahanadi while taking bath around noon today.

Following information, fire brigade and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams rushed to the spot and began a search operation to fish out the body of the student.

The missing student has been identified a Bhanu Thakur of Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, seven students of Sri Sri University had gone to a ghat on the river near Bidyadharpur for bath around noon.

Though the locals present there warned the students of the strong current in the river and asked them not to take bath at the place, they ignored the advice and went inside the river. Soon after, two students slipped into the deep waters. Seeing this, some locals jumped into the river and rescued one of them. But the other student Bhanu was swept away by the strong current.

Despite the efforts of the fire brigade and ODRAF teams, the body was still to be traced when reports last came in.
