Cuttack: The one-member commission formed by the State government to suggest reforms in the management of Puri Sri Mandir under the chairmanship of former Orissa High Court judge, Justice Bimal Prasad Das today sought extension of the tenure of the commission in a letter sent to the Odisha government, citing more time to review the affidavits it has received.
The tenure of the commission is scheduled to end on January 22, 2017.
“From the affidavits that we have received we have found good suggestions and for reviewing them we would need more time. We have informed the State government about the work we have done till now and also the extension of deadline twice for submission of affidavit. We are expecting a response from the government before our tenure ends,” said secretary to the commission, Bibhu Prasanna Parija.
According to sources, the commission has received 12,780 affidavits. These include 11,094 affidavits been submitted with the office of the commission, 1551 suggestions and received 135 affidavits through e-mail, informed sources.

On the other hand, the commission has appointed a lawyer, a retired police officer and an experienced official of the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to facilitate its review.
The commission has also written a letter to the Odisha government seeking recruitment of 2 data entry operators for listing and digitization of received affidavits.
The commission will visit the Puri temple soon, informed sources.
It may be mentioned that taking note of the Niladri Bije fiasco on July 17 this year, the state government had set up a judicial commission headed by Justice Bimal Prasad Das on July 23 to suggest reforms in management of Puri Sri Jagannath temple.
