Puri: Police today formed a special team headed by a sub-inspector to probe into the alleged molestation to women by a policeman in Gundicha temple during ‘sandhya darshan’.

The team comprising some women officials will start the investigation from the spot, police sources said. A case was registered in this regard at Kumbharpada police station following SP Sarthak Sarangi's order.

Later in the day, a three-member team led by IIC of Kumbharpada police station,Puri, met the girl at the medical college in Bhubaneswar where she is pursuing her degree and recorded her statement regarding the incident.

DGP KB Singh took the matter seriously and asked the SP to monitor the investigation.

Through a social media post, a girl alleged molestation of women by a policeman in the crowd during 'darshan' at Gundicha temple recently. The complainant also tagged her post to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

She posted in her Facebook page that while in queue, she found a policeman inappropriately touching women taking advantage of the crowd.

She further alleged that policewomen were present in the crowd, but didn't oppose the act.
