Bhubaneswar: After playing hide and seek for about a week, the southwest monsoon finally set in over some parts of Odisha today, a bulletin issued by the IMD said.

"It (monsoon) has covered districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and also some portions of the adjoining districts of Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati," the bulletin said.

IMD regional director, Bhubaneswar Sarat Chandra Sahu said, "The conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Odisha during next 2 to 3 days."

"The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Lat 15 N / Long 60 E, Lat 15 N / Long 70 E, Karwar, Gadag, Kurnool, Kalingapatnam, Cuttack, Jamshedpur and Forbesganj," the IMD said.

The department said heavy rainfall was likely at one or two places over north and southern districts of the state in next 24 hours.

It also predicted continuance of rainfall for next five days.
