Puri: Police arrested six persons today in connection with the ransacking of the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on August 17 night following the death of a patient.

Notably, family members of deceased Nabakishore Jena had ransacked the Government-run hospital and allegedly thrashed some doctors and staff of the hospital in the night attributing Jena’s death to medical negligence.

Irate over this, four senior doctors of the hospital had given conditional resignation protesting frequent occurrence of such vandalism at the hospital. The four warned that they would not join their duty until they are provided with round-the-clock security. However, they resumed their duty after a discussion with Additional Collector, Sub-Collector, Additional SP and CDMO.

Meanwhile, doctors at the DHH called off their cease-work stir on Thursday after SP Sarthak Sarangi assured them of round-the-clock security.
