Soro/Pattamundai/Rourkela: The situation in Soro, Pattamundai and Rourkela, which had turned violent following group clash between two communities during the immersion procession of Ganesh idol, is limping back to normalcy.

Reports from Balasore said the situation in Soro town has vastly improved as all business establishments and educational institutions opened today.

Talking to media persons, Balasore SDPO Amaresh Panda said to ward off any untoward incident, the district administration has decided to clamp 12-hour prohibitory order under section 144 in the town from 6 PM today to 6 AM tomorrow.

“Police has so far registered 11 cases and arrested 18 persons involved in the violence”, he added.

However, the prohibitory order is still enforced in Pattamundai town in Kendrapara district.

As informed by Pattamundai SDPO, Uma Shankar Maharana, armed police force has been deployed in the sensitive areas in Dak Bungalow, Bypass Chhak and Aul-Rajnagar bridge areas in the town. “Efforts are on to restore normalcy through a meeting of the Shanti committee within two days”, he added.

Though the situation in Rourkela has improved, the administration, as a precautionary move, has clamped prohibitory order between Madhusudan Chhatk and Ambedkar Chhak. Police has intensified frisking of vehicles in the evening in the presence of CRPF, SOG and State Police personnel.

“Till date, police has arrested 15 persons involved in the violence”, Rourkela Sub Collector Himanshu Sekhar Behera told the media this afternoon.
