Jajpur: The return of Siberian birds to Dhanmandal under Darpan panchayat in Barchana block of the district is a sign for the locals that monsoon is approaching. More than prediction of the Met department, locals trust the arrival of the migratory birds as a sign of monsoon.

This year also, people here are sure of the advent of monsoon with the arrival of several thousands of Siberian birds.

“These birds arrive here every year during the arrival of monsoon. They are also provided every type of security here and even if anyone tries to harm them we protest against it,” said a local resident Basant Kumar Das.

Former Samiti Member of Darpan panchayat, Niranjan Senapati, said, “Two staff from Chandikhol forest office under Dalijoda range are deployed here for security of the birds, to save them from any attack.”

The local administration has informed that more than 5000 Siberian birds have migrated this year. Chandikhol forest office with help from local bazaar committee and other groups are looking after of the birds.

All type of measures is being taken to check hunting of these birds, said Additional Tehsildar Biswaranjan Biswas. “For the security of the birds, Tehsil administration has notified all how to take care of them, not to harm them and not to light any crackers. The bazaar committee is also alert about it,” he added.
