Sambalpur: The family of Shreyas Kesharwani, who died due to alleged ragging by his friends in a private college in Vishakhapatnam, is now unhappy over the probe by police of the neighbouring State.

Shreyas’ father Shailesh Kesharwani said, “We are unhappy since Vishakhapatnam CID has informed me that they have decided to investigate the case under Section 304 of the IPC ('culpable homicide and not amounting to murder).”

Earlier, the case was being investigated under Section 302 (dealing with murder).

Demanding free and fair probe into the matter by CBI, Shreyas' father said that he has informed all details to Vishakhapatnam CID and they have assured him proper investigation.

Sources said, police have released the three accused minors who are suspected to be involved in the incident.

IIC of Govindpur Police Station which had initially registered the case after the death of Shreyas said that Vishakhapatnam police have assured that they will serve notice to the parents of the three minor accused under Section 41 of CrPC.

Shreyas, a 16-year-old native of Garposh area in Sundergarh district had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rourkela in January 7.

His family members alleged that Shreyas was beaten up by his friends and other inmates inside the hostel of Sri Chaitanya College in Visakhapatnam in December last year.
