Jeypore: Remember the baby girl, who was rescued crying alone near the dead body of her mother in a forest in Koraput district last year? The toddler Shreya has now got a new home as a couple from Andhra Pradesh has come forward to adopt her.

The eight-month-old baby girl was earlier rescued by locals from the Nilagiri forests, barely few meters away from the spot where her mother's body was lying in July last year.

The toddler was then rushed to Borigumma health centre and later handed over to the Childline and was subsequently named Shreya.

Shreya is all set to start a new life after an IT couple from Andhra Pradesh evinced interest to adopt her. The district administration has also decided to handover the baby to the couple after completing necessary formalities for adoption.

"The prospective adoptive parents are happy with the adopting agency and the district administration. The adoption process will formally be completed after the district magistrate issues a date," said the district child protection officer, Rajashree Das.
