Shocking! Divyang among two minors raped in Odisha

Nayagarh/ Balasore: Incidents of sexual assault on minor girls continue unabated in Odisha after rape of two more minor girls, including a divyang, was reported from two separate places in the State.

A differently-abled minor girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by a youth at Itamati village of Nayagarh district. The accused, Brajabandhu Sahoo of the same village was arrested by the police after the parents of the girl lodged an FIR at Itamati Police Station today.

According to reports, the girl was raped by Sahoo four months back following which the villagers wanted to settle the matter through arbitration. But even after four months of the incident when no steps were taken against Sahoo and the girl was found pregnant, the family members of the minor lodged a complaint at the police station. Based on the complaint, police arrested Sahoo, who later confessed to the crime during interrogation.

In another incident, a man was arrested for allegedly raping his five-year-old niece at Chandipur in Balasore district today.

The accused, Banthu Marandi was arrested under POCSO act following an FIR at the Chandipur Police Station. Sources said that Banthu, the maternal uncle of the minor girl had raped her on May 8. The matter came to the fore after the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents. Meanwhile, Banthu and the minor girl have been sent for medical examination.
