Bhubaneswar: Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati today joined the bandwagon to protest Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s portrayal of facts in his upcoming movie Padmavati tagging it as ‘distortion’.

The Puri seer stated that the filmmaker has distorted historical facts and wrongly portrayed the character of the Rajput queen in the period drama. He said the filmmaker should be forced to atone for his sin under the jurisdiction of the Human Rights.

Stating that the history of Padmavati is revered even by the intellectuals of western countries, Shankaracharya said the director should be declared offender and penalized so that no one attempts to distort the purity of history in future.

It may be mentioned here that the movie, scheduled to release on December 1, is drawing flak from various quarters in several states, including Gujarat and Rajasthan.

On Sunday, members of the Rajput community intensified their protests against the flick and staged demonstrations in Gujarat and outside the Mumbai office of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali demanding a ban on the film.
