Sexual harassment in Ravenshaw again: Reader lodges FIR against HOD

Cuttack: A Hindi Reader of Ravenshaw University on Thursday brought sexual harassment allegations against the department's HOD, Abhishekh Sharma. The HOD had earlier brought charges of assault against her.

As per reports, both the Reader and Abhishekh complained against each other before the varsity Registrar who later formed a team to probe into the allegations.

The HOD had first complained against the Reader who later accused him of sexual harassment. So, to ensure a free and fair investigation in the matter, a committee has been formed to carry out a probe and submit report on the duo's charges against each other within 15 days, informed the Registrar.

Meanwhile, the Reader has lodged a complaint at the Mahila police station.

“We have recorded statement of the Reader and registered a case against the HOD under IPC sections 354-A, 323 and 307,” informed Cuttack ACP Manoranjan Biswal.

Earlier in July this year, a Plus III (first year) girl student of Chemistry department had brought sexual harassment allegations against an assistant professor of the university.

Later, vice chancellor P C Sarangi had suspended the professor and referred the matter to Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) for probe.
