Damanjodi: Separate police complaints were filed by the Principal of Delhi Public School (DPS), Damanjodi, and the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Koraput against seven teachers of the school on charges of sexual harassment of girl students.

The DCPO lodged the FIR at the Damanjodi police station last night on the basis of written complaints made by the girl students when she met them at the school the other day.

Rajashree Das, the DCPO, Koraput, said, “I had got several complaints over phone on the helpline no 1908 regarding sexual harassment in the school. Since some of the complaints talked of harassment by teachers if students did not go to them for tuition, I visited the school with the BEO on July 19 and talked to the girl students.”

Meanwhile, parents and guardians of the students gheraoed the DCPO and the BEO, who had gone to the school today, questioning the decision of the former to file the FIR without asking them. Things returned to normal after talks among the school principal, Nalco officials, parents and the SDPO where a unanimous decision was taken to wait for the outcome of the police investigation.

Alleging ‘mala fide intention’ behind filing of the FIR, Alok Choudhuri, a parent, said, “Today we came to know some students were sexually harassed. But we think there is evil intention behind the filing of the FIR.”

Subramaniam K.S., Prinicipal, DPS, Damanjodi, said, “The incident is unfortunate. Most of the allegations are anonymous. As the school is getting bad name unnecessarily, an inquiry is needed.”
